Purpose

Variant Configuration UI allows users to configure complex products without working directly in SAP. It displays the characteristics and values defined in SAP, applies SAP configuration rules as users make selections, and ensures the completed configuration is valid for quoting or ordering.

Primary Audience

  • Sales users who configure products while creating quotes or orders in a host application (for example, Salesforce)

What Users Can Do

  • Select characteristic values using the input types SAP defines (single-select, multi-select, text, number, date, and related types)
  • Receive immediate validation as SAP updates available values and checks configuration rules
  • Review current selections in a summary panel
  • Optionally view simulated pricing
  • Optionally save and reuse configuration templates for a material
  • Reset, cancel, or finalize the configuration session
  • View configurations in read-only mode when editing is not allowed

Key Features

Guided Configuration

VC UI displays the characteristics and values available for the current configuration. As selections change, SAP updates the available options and validates the configuration, helping prevent invalid combinations.

Template Management

Users can save a completed configuration as a template and reuse it in future sessions. Templates help reduce repetitive data entry and improve consistency for frequently configured products.

Read-Only Display Mode

VC UI can display an existing configuration without allowing changes. This is useful when viewing completed or approved configurations.

Reset Behavior

The Reset button clears the current configuration. Depending on how VC UI is configured, it either restores the initial configuration or starts a new blank configuration.

Overall Usage

  1. The host application opens Cloud UI and sends the material and configuration context.
  2. VC UI initializes the configuration in SAP — either as a new session or from existing selected values.
  3. The user selects characteristic values. SAP validates each relevant change and updates allowed values and messages.
  4. When the user finalizes, VC UI returns the completed configuration to the host. The user can also cancel or reset the session.
